Portable Voice Radios

Kenwood TH-F6A

  • Capable of dual band operation, but I find that clunky. I use it only for single band operation on 144 MHz, 222 MHz, and 440 MHz.
  • Stock antenna is sturdy, but not particularly efficient. The Diamond SRH320A is about $50 from Ham Radio Outlet. Review on eHam.net. Another vote for it:

WA7FUS: Your F6 will really come alive on 220 with either of these antennas: MFJ 1718S or Diamond SRH320S.
I have the Diamond one and I have a friend who has the MFJ one for his F6.
I can promise you that you will find a whole bunch of difference between the
stock Kenwood antenna and one of these others especially on 220.

  • Speaker Microphone
  • Speaker - need to clarify from documentation what the preferred speaker plug is.
  • AC charger
  • Mobile charger
  • Supposedly can be used for 9600 baud packet - to be investigated

Yaesu VX-8DR

  • Likely can also benefit from the Diamond SRH320A antenna.
